Cape Greco
A national park in the Famagusta district; the exam asks about its district

The story
Cape Greco is the southeasternmost tip of Cyprus, between Ayia Napa and Protaras, in the Famagusta district. In 1993 a national forest park of about 385 hectares was declared here, run by the Department of Forests. The coast is made of limestone cliffs with sea caves. The park has the Cyclops Cave, the chapel of Ayii Anargyri, the Holy Unmercenaries, and Konnos beach. Maquis grows here, an evergreen shrubland, mostly Phoenician juniper. About 400 plant species have been found here, and 14 of them grow only in Cyprus. The cape, together with the nearby sea, is part of the European network of protected areas, Natura 2000.
Cape Greco forest park is in the Famagusta district, Αμμόχωστος, not in Larnaca, Limassol or Paphos. The city of Famagusta itself is in the part of the island that the Republic of Cyprus has not controlled since 1974, while the southern part of the district, with Ayia Napa and Protaras, is under its control.
Visiting
According to the Department of Forests, the park has a small picnic site, a snack bar, parking areas, a cycle path of about 4 km, about 16 km of footpaths and a horse-riding trail. The very tip of the cape is a restricted zone with no entry; it is best seen from the viewpoints nearby.
