Chlorakas: Digenis landing site
Grivas landed here in secret before the EOKA struggle of 1955–1959

The story
While the EOKA struggle was being prepared, this shore at Chlorakas was deserted, so people and weapons from Greece were received here in secret. On November 10, 1954, at a spot called Aliki, Georgios Grivas came ashore under the code name Digenis. He was the military leader of EOKA. EOKA was an underground organization that from April 1, 1955, to 1959 waged an armed struggle against British colonial rule for enosis, that is, the union of Cyprus with Greece. In January 1955 the British, who had learned of the voyage in advance, seized the caique Agios Georgios with its weapons about one and a half kilometers to the south. A caique is a small motor vessel. They also detained its crew and the men waiting on shore. The caique is now kept in a museum next to the landing monument.
On November 10, 1954, EOKA’s military leader Georgios Grivas (Digenis) secretly landed on the shore of Chlorakas in Paphos District. The political leader of the struggle was Archbishop Makarios III, and EOKA’s armed struggle began on April 1, 1955.
Visiting
The monument stands in an open area by the sea, with a beach next to it. The opening hours of the museum with the caique have not been checked; ask on site.
