The story

Kyparissovouno is the highest point of the Pentadaktylos range, also called the Kyrenia range. The range runs as a narrow, steep chain along the north coast, from Kormakitis in the west to Apostolos Andreas in the east. According to the Cyprus Geological Survey, its peaks rise to between 700 and 1,024 meters. They are made mainly of limestone that was pushed over younger marine sediments about 10 million years ago. Kyparissovouno stands in the western part of the range, above Lapithos, in the north of the island, which the Republic of Cyprus has not controlled since 1974. The highest point of all Cyprus is a different mountain: Olympus in the Troodos, about 1,950 meters.

Kyparissovouno is the highest peak of the Pentadaktylos range, 1,024 m. Don’t confuse it with Olympus in the Troodos, the highest point of the island. In the question “which of these peaks is not in the Pentadaktylos range”, quoted by the Cyprus Mail in July 2026, it was among the options together with Kantara and Saint Hilarion; the odd one out was Papoutsa.

Visiting

This is the north of the island: enter through a checkpoint on the Green Line with a passport; car insurance for the north is usually bought separately at the checkpoint. According to OpenStreetMap, the summit is a military zone with communication masts: don’t approach it or take photos. The find counts from the mountain road about 400 m north of the summit.
