The story

Madari is a wooded ridge in the east of the Troodos Mountains, in the Pitsilia area of Nicosia district. Its highest point, Adelfi peak, rises to 1,613 meters, and the Adelfi state forest grows all around. At the top stands a fire lookout of the Department of Forests. In fire season, firefighters keep watch at such posts and look out for smoke. Nature trails run out from the tower with views in every direction, and from one of them you can see the Mesaoria plain and Morphou Bay. The Madari–Papoutsa area is part of Natura 2000, the European Union’s network of protected natural areas.

Madari (Adelfi peak, 1,613 m) is a Troodos mountain in the Pitsilia area, Nicosia district; don’t confuse it with the Pentadaktylos range in the north. A fire lookout stands on the summit, and the Madari–Papoutsa area is a Natura 2000 site.

Visiting

By car: from the Chandria–Polystypos road toward Adelfi peak, about 3 km; the last stretch, about 800 m, is a narrow, rough dirt track. Department of Forests nature trails start by the tower, including the circular “Teisia tis Madaris” (about 3 km, roughly 1 h 30 min). The fire lookout is in use: in fire season, don’t disturb the staff on duty.
