Polis Chrysochous
An exam question: which district this town belongs to

The story
Polis Chrysochous is a small town in the northwest of Cyprus, in Paphos District, on Chrysochou Bay, near the Akamas Peninsula. It is considered the successor of ancient Marion, one of the island’s city-kingdoms. In 312 BC Marion was captured by Ptolemy the First, who abolished the kingdom. Later Ptolemy the Second renamed the city Arsinoe, after his sister and wife. Finds from Marion-Arsinoe are kept in the local archaeological museum. The municipality was founded in 1882, in the first years of British rule, and today it also includes neighboring villages, among them Neo Chorio, Argaka and Pomos.
Polis Chrysochous belongs to Paphos District; according to a candidate’s recollection, this question was asked at the February 2024 session. Landmarks: the northwest of the island, Chrysochou Bay, Akamas nearby.
