Pointe Saint-Hospice
A hermit’s point, a chapel and a statue of the Madonna
The story
The point is named after Saint Hospitius. In the early Middle Ages this hermit lived in a signal tower at the top of the peninsula, and in 581 he was buried here. Above the point stands the Saint-Hospice chapel. It was built by Emmanuel Philibert, Duke of Savoy, at the end of the sixteenth century. In front of it is a bronze statue of the Madonna, 11 meters tall. Nearby are a Saracen tower and a Belgian cemetery. On the way back, the trail follows a paved path through a pine grove.
Visiting
A short side path leads to the chapel, there and back.
