Atalante trail

A long loop around Chionistra at 1,700–1,750 m, lower than the Artemis trail. It runs through dense forest of black pine and Troodos juniper. Along the way: a juniper about 800 years old and the entrance to an old chrome mine. The view opens over almost the whole island.

Colours work like ski runs and match the app: they come from the length, the climbs and the steepness. Highest point: 1818 m.

Where to start

Troodos Square, by the trail board. Parking nearby.

Before you go

A long trail: 4–5 hours. Drinking water is at the fountain 3 km from the start.

After about 9 km the trail comes out onto the Troodos–Prodromos road. Cross the highway and walk about 200 m along the forest road toward the church of Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis, to a wooden signpost.

In winter there is snow on Olympus — there’s a ski resort here. The trail may be slippery or under snow.

Lighting fires in state forests and within 2 km of their boundary is forbidden. To report a fire, call 1407 — the call is free.
