The Schoolboy Across the Road
A teenager hanged by the British colonial government, and the school he is still looking at.

Listen to this place’s story in Peplos.
How the story begins
A goodbye note from a seventeen-year-old was left in a classroom across this road, and the school says it preserves it. It tells his classmates he has gone in search of freedom and may not come back. It asks them not to cry at his grave. A few flowers of May would do. His name was Evagoras Pallikarides. At fifteen, during the celebrations for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth, he climbed a mast in this town and pulled down the British flag.
The rest is in the app. Peplos plays the full story when you reach the place. You can also listen ahead of time.
Visiting
On Griva Digeni Avenue, across from the main entrance of the 1st Lyceum of Paphos. The statue can be seen from the street at any time. It is a working school: we could not confirm that the classroom can be visited, so treat it as closed.
