Allée des Eucalyptus
An old avenue that takes the trail back to the pier
The story
From the National Forests Office’s forest house, the trail leaves the shore and heads inland along the Allée des Eucalyptus. Young trees are slowly taking over from the old ones here. The island’s forest was planted in the early nineteenth century: Aleppo pines, stone pines, maritime pines, holm oak and cypresses. Eucalyptus, cedars and the Judas tree were added in 1935. The avenue leads to the pier and to the Fort Royal.
