Le Tignet

The start of a loop to the Siagne river and the ruins of a viaduct

The story

Le Tignet is a village above the Siagne valley. A fortified settlement of this name is mentioned as early as the first half of the thirteenth century. For a long time the villagers had no church of their own and walked to Cabris for Mass. The old church was built in 1714: the date is on its smallest bell. In 2003 a new church was built in the valley to replace it. From the square of the old village you can see everything from the Lac de Saint-Cassien to Grasse, and on a clear day the Alps and even Monte Cinto on Corsica. From the school the trail goes down to the river through pines, oaks, mimosa and heather. Lower down the scrub is low: there was a fire here in 1986.
